24th August Independence Day of Ukraine 💙💛

Celebrating Independence Day of Ukraine is not only an anniversary of a historical event, but also an opportunity to commemorate contemporary achievements and future prospects. Ukraine, as a young independent state, actively joined the global community, confirming its role in ensuring peace, stability, and development. August 24th symbolizes the unity of different cultures, languages, and traditions that make up the multifaceted mosaic image of the Ukrainian people. This holiday reminds us of our past, but also opens the way to the future, where each person can contribute to the country's development.

Independence Day is a time to remember the feats of previous generations who fought for a free and independent future. On this day in 1991, Ukraine declared its independence from the Soviet Union, finally attaining the long-awaited freedom after a decade-long struggle. Since August 24, 1991, when the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR adopted the Act of Independence of Ukraine, which was confirmed by the people in the All-Ukrainian referendum on December 1, 1991, there arose a need to change the date of celebrating Independence Day of Ukraine. On February 20, 1992, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the resolution 'On Independence Day of Ukraine,' in which it was stated:

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine resolves:

  1. To consider the day of August 24 as the Independence Day of Ukraine and to annually celebrate it as the state national holiday of Ukraine.

  2. To consider the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR 'On the Declaration of Independence of Ukraine' dated July 16, 1990, as null and void.

This holiday expresses national unity and dignity when Ukrainians come together to celebrate achievements and share the joy of their shared history. Each year on August 24th, we are reminded that peaceful and independent existence is a great value that needs to be preserved and nurtured. On this day, Ukrainians from all around the world gather to honor the memory of fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives on the path to independence. This holiday is also an opportunity to remember all those who have gone through trials and hardships to secure a bright future for the next generations.

August 24th is a day of hope and opportunities. Today, Ukraine is a country that is developing, asserting its place on the international stage, and strengthening its democracy. It's a day when we see achieved victories in economic, cultural, and social spheres, while also remembering that there is still much work to be done on the path to a better future.

May this Independence Day bring us all faith in a bright future, unity of hearts, and an unyielding will to reach new heights. May this independence always remain our most valuable treasure, which needs to be preserved and passed down to descendants from generation to generation.
